Social capital, development, and disaster recovery through an Austrian lens

I am an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Department of Business Administration and Economics at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN. I earned my BS in Chemical Biosciences and Economics from the University of Oklahoma and my PhD in Economics from George Mason University. I am interested in how community ties and culture influence economic development. Often, I use the context of communities’ experience with disasters to reveal how social life and economic life shape one another, demonstrating the relevance of studying social life when studying (re-)development. I am also interested in how this approach can inform Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, especially non-consequentialist moral evaluation of social systems.

Social Capital and Social Learning

Here is a video of me presenting my paper with Virgil Henry Storr “Social Capital Facilitates Emergent Social Learning” to the International Social Capital Association.
